An ANPR system generally consists of two elements: A specific type of camera, carefully positioned to include vehicle number plates in its field of view and software running on a PC to analyse the camera’s images, recognise and extract the number plate data. The retrieved plate information and snapshot image is then added automatically to a database where it can be used, for example, to produce traffic flow analysis or operate barriers.
